Sean G. Clark

Sean Gerard Clark is a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee who has lived and worked in New Orleans for the past 12 years. Before coming to New Orleans, Sean graduated from Morehouse College with a Bachelors of Science in Biology with a concentration in Public Health and African-American Studies. Sean has always found art as a tool for navigating life throughout his work and academic career. In Sean's practice he spends time developing relationships between surface and mark making and how they can be applied to abstract and figurative works.  He continues to develop both his technique, as well as refine his artistic language as a painter grounded in where the figurative meets the abstract. Central to his practice is the notion of an “artistic language". The idea of language within painting helped him to name and conceptualize how the marks on a work of art communicate energy, movement, rest, and all varieties of emotions. Sean’s artistic language has continued to develop and center on social observation, biology, and rest.
